Hurricanes drop heartbreaker

The Carolina Hurricanes put up a strong effort on the road but it wasn’t enough to topple the New Jersey Devils.

The Hurricanes fell to New Jersey, 1-0, thanks to the lone goal of the game scored in the early moments of the third period.

Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur was simply too much for the Hurricanes, which is hardly anything to be ashamed about.

The shutout was the 23rd of Brodeur’s playoff career, tying the all-time record.

He managed such a strong effort despite a collision at the net that resulted in a skate slicing his leg.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes had gotten off to a fast start in the playoffs, upsetting the New Jersey Devils in Game 1 on their first round playoff series.

The 2-1 road win certainly should breed a lot of confidence for an inconsistent Carolina team that just had to battle its way to even reach the postseason.

It certainly didn’t help that the Hurricanes had to go up against the Washington Captials for the Southeast Division title, a team they obviously weren’t going to overtake.

The Devils have plenty of playoff pedigree and aren’t going to go away quietly, but it isn’t like the Hurricanes haven’t experienced some playoff success in past years as well.
It will be interesting to watch as the rest of this series unfolds, particularly if Carolina can somehow manage to steal yet another game on New Jersey’s home ice.

Black Aces

The Hurricanes have named six “Black Aces” to their playoff run.

The Hurricanes announced Monday that minor-league forwards Zach Boychuk, Patrick Dwyer and Brandon Suttor will be added to the mix of defensemen Brett Carson and Bryan Rodney, along with goaltender Justin Peters for upcoming practices during the playoffs.
